Resumo A bovinocultura de corte atualmente no Brasil é fundamental para o PIB, e dessa forma para que o ciclo da pecuária se torne completo e cada vez mais eficiente o início da maturidade sexual bovina precoce. Associado ao manejo adequado e a realização frequente da sincronização de estro em fêmeas de corte, obtivemos boas taxas de concepção no rebanho e provocando a heterose entre o zebuíno e o taurino. A eficiência reprodutiva se dá por meio da sincronização do cio, (...) que ocorre por meio do uso de hormônios nos protocolos de inseminação artificial, além de sêmen de touros bem avaliados e uma equipe especializada junto ao médico veterinário. O presente relato utilizou oitenta animais sendo cinquenta vacas e trinta novilhas, taxas de concepção em novilhas de 66% e nas primíparas 84%. Concluindo que é uma técnica eficiente para ganho genético rápido no rebanho. Palavras-Chave: bovinocultura; maturidade sexual; puberdade; sincronização de estro; hormônios. Abstract Beef cattle farming is currently essential for the GDP in Brazil, and thus, for the livestock cycle to become complete and increasingly efficient, early bovine sexual maturity begins. Associated with adequate management and frequent estrus synchronization in beef females, we obtained good conception rates in the herd and caused heterosis between zebu and taurine. Reproductive efficiency is achieved through estrus synchronization, which occurs through the use of hormones in artificial insemination protocols, in addition to semen from well-evaluated bulls and a specialized team together with the veterinarian. This report used eighty animals, fifty cows and thirty heifers, with conception rates in heifers of 66% and in primiparous cattle of 84%. BackgroundPreprint usage is growing rapidly in the life sciences; however, questions remain on the relative quality of preprints when compared to published articles. An objective dimension of quality that is readily measurable is completeness of reporting, as transparency can improve the reader’s ability to independently interpret data and reproduce findings.MethodsIn this observational study, we initially compared independent samples of articles published in bioRxiv and in PubMed-indexed journals in 2016 using a quality of reporting questionnaire. After that, we performed paired comparisons (...) between preprints from bioRxiv to their own peer-reviewed versions in journals.ResultsPeer-reviewed articles had, on average, higher quality of reporting than preprints, although the difference was small, with absolute differences of 5.0% [95% CI 1.4, 8.6] and 4.7% [95% CI 2.4, 7.0] of reported items in the independent samples and paired sample comparison, respectively. There were larger differences favoring peer-reviewed articles in subjective ratings of how clearly titles and abstracts presented the main findings and how easy it was to locate relevant reporting information. Changes in reporting from preprints to peer-reviewed versions did not correlate with the impact factor of the publication venue or with the time lag from bioRxiv to journal publication.ConclusionsOur results suggest that, on average, publication in a peer-reviewed journal is associated with improvement in quality of reporting. They also show that quality of reporting in preprints in the life sciences is within a similar range as that of peer-reviewed articles, albeit slightly lower on average, supporting the idea that preprints should be considered valid scientific contributions. In recent years, more attention has been paid to living donation as a means to reduce the suffering of individuals with end-stage kidney or liver disease. Implicated ethical issues include medical risk and risk of coercion, counterbalanced by improved medical outcomes and the benefits of saving a life. Living donation becomes particularly ethically complicated with the prospect of child donation, given the child’s developing autonomy and uniquely dependent status. We outline four broad ethical considerations pertinent to living child organ donation: (...) (1) beneficence, (2) respect for the family as a moral unit, (3) respect for the child as a person, and (4) justice. We conclude that it can be ethical for a healthy child to donate a kidney or liver lobe to a close relative who has exhausted other options provided that certain protections are put into place. Ideally, these donations will be rare. Lastly, we construct a model transplant center donation policy. (shrink)

A questão feminina não é um tema visado por Arendt. O paradoxo encontrado por algumas teóricas em relação ao fato desta reconhecer-se enquanto judia, mas não enquanto mulher, faz afastar a essência do pensamento político arendtiano do movimento filosófico do feminismo, acusando Arendt de ceder à hegemonia masculina. Este prisma perde muito ao não reconhecer como sua crítica da modernidade oferece uma base sólida para pensar a mulher contemporaneamente. Sobretudo, tolhe a saída mais digna: a que reconhece o humano. O (...) escrito, a partir da revisão bibliográfica de obras como Entre o Passado e o Futuro (ARENDT, 2016) e Feminism theory and Hannah Arendt’s concept of public space (BENHABIB, 1993a), propõe demonstrar como o sujeito arendtiano, na condição de original, capaz de ação e na imprevisibilidade, existe e age no ínterim do passado-futuro é o sustentáculo teórico dos principais quadros dessa última fase do feminismo. O ponto central é retomar a discussão sobre teorias que retiram do ser a capacidade de agir, reduzindo-os ao homogêneo, e fazer a crítica às teorias contemporâneas sobre as mulheres. A partir da pesquisa, foi possível levantar diversas pensadoras que, iluminadas pela teoria de Arendt, pensam horizontes femininos para uma nova política. (shrink)

This paper analyzes a non-temporal interpretation of the adverb sempre “always” in European Portuguese and Italian, in which the adverb expresses persistence of the truth of a proposition over time and displays specific contextual constraints (TP-sempre). Despite an overlap in the contexts in which TP-sempre may occur in both languages, we provide data showing that its distribution is not exactly the same in European Portuguese and Italian. In view of these data, we propose that TP-sempre is a modal operator of (...) confirmation in both languages, but that it is more restricted in Italian in that it has a plan presupposition only in this language. En contrapartida, no es posible desvincularse, ya sea en el ámbito médico o filosófico, de la concepción actual, fundamentada en semánticas y dominios científicos específicos, del problema que une ambos dominios del conocimiento humano. Por lo tanto, emerge un problema con la noción contemporánea de la melancolía, id est, (...) bajo qué óptica examinar las enfermedades que implican al ser humano en su complejidad espiritual y metafísica más allá de lo físico y corpóreo. This paper focuses on the interpretation of the Italian approximative adverb quasi 'almost' by primarily looking at cases in which it modifies temporal connectives, a domain which, to our knowledge, has been largely unexplored thus far. Consideration of this domain supports the need for a scalar account of the semantics of quasi (close in spirit to Hitzeman's semantic analysis of almost, in: Canakis et al. (eds) Papers from the 28th regional meeting of the Chicago Linguistic Society, 1992). When paired with (...) suitable analyses of temporal connectives, such an account can provide a simple explanation of the patterns of implication that are observed when quasi modifies locational (e. g. quando 'when'), directional (e. g. fino 'until' and da 'since'), and event-sequencing temporal connectives (e. g. prima 'before' and dopo ' after'). A challenging empirical phenomenon that is observed is a contrast between the modification of fino and da by quasi, on the one hand, and the modification of prima and dopo by the same adverb, on the other. While quasi fino and quasi da behave symmetrically, a puzzling asymmetry is observed between quasi prima and quasi dopo. To explain the asymmetry, we propose an analysis of prima and dopo on which the former has the meaning of the temporal comparative più presto 'earlier', while the latter is seen as an atomic predicate denoting temporal succession between events (Del Prete, Nat Lang Semantics 16: 157-203, 2008). We show that the same pattern of implication observed for quasi prima is attested when quasi modifies overt comparatives, and propose a pragmatic analysis of this pattern that uniformly applies to both cases, thus providing new evidence for the claim that prima is underlyingly a comparative. A major point of this paper is a discussion of the notion of scale which is relevant for the semantics of quasi', in particular, we show that the notion of Horn (entailment-based) scale is not well-suited for handling modification of temporal connectives, and that a more general notion of scale is required in order to provide a uniform analysis of quasi as a cross-categorial modifier. As maiores reflexões nasceram com a ideia de amor mundi ao reconfigurar o pensamento de Santo Agostinho e reposicionar o amor mundano como construtor do mundo. Assim, a ideia de amor mundi de Hannah Arendt se aproxima da sua compreensão sobre (...) ação política dentro do espaço público para a edificação do mundo e se afasta do amor idealizado pela doutrina cristã enquanto demonstração de afeto privado. We argue that the felicitous use of these modal particles requires that the truth of a proposition p* fail to persist through a temporal succession of epistemic states, where p* is incompatible with the proposition modified by afinal/alla fine, and that the interlocutors share knowledge of a previous (...) epistemic attitude toward p*. Este artigo pretende aprofundar e apresentar o conceito de espaço íntimo, um espaço de alteridade, onde a utopia romântica estabelece uma relação distinta em determinadas cenas ou sequências fílmicas, nas quais o amor é uma atmosfera, um cenário e uma mise-en-scene que aglutinam formas de sentir na nossa sociedade. A partir da necessidade de pensar o que em comum as tramas de romance acabam por exercer, vamos observar o espaço que surge em cenas de vulnerabilidade e desejo. Nossa abordagem será (...) centrada em dois aspectos: a conceituação da utopia romântica (Ilouz, 1997), espaço (Gaudin, 2015; Zan, 2022) e atmosfera (Gumbrecht, 2014; Gil, 2005), para então percebermos como o espaço íntimo se manifesta enquanto “ilhas de intimidade” - que podem nos ajudar a construir momentos sensíveis em narrativas de amor. Tais conceitos serão aplicados em análises de obras como Guerra Fria (2018), Felizes Juntos (1997), A pior pessoa do mundo (2021) e Carol (2015). (shrink)

Trust has stood out more than ever in light of recent innovations. Some examples are advances in artificial intelligence (AI) that make machines increasingly humanlike, and the introduction of decentralized technologies (e.g., blockchains), which create new forms of (decentralized) trust. These new developments have the potential to improve the provision of products and services, as well as to contribute to individual and collective well-being. However, their adoption depends largely on trust. To build trustworthy systems, along with defining laws, regulations, and (...) proper governance models for new forms of trust, it is necessary to properly conceptualize trust, so that it can be understood both by humans and machines. This paper is the culmination of a long-term research program of providing a solid ontological foundation on trust, by creating reference conceptual models to support information modeling, automated reasoning, information integration, and semantic interoperability tasks. To address this, a Reference Ontology of Trust (ONTrust) was developed, grounded on the Unified Foundational Ontology and specified in OntoUML, which has been applied in several initiatives, demonstrating its use for conceptual modeling and enterprise architecture design, for language evaluation and (re)design, for trust management, for requirements engineering, and for trustworthy AI in the context of affective human–AI teaming. ONTrust formally characterizes the concept of trust and its different types, describes the different factors that can influence trust, and explains how risk emerges from trust relations. Science starts out with the idea of a person as billions of neurons housed in a body that is a cloud of particles. Common sense starts out with the idea of a person having capacities belonging to a single individual. The common sense person does not have parts. Our objectifying science slowly takes over the person as it tends toward physical materialism. Where will it end? What is being gradually pushed out of the world? If science had already taken over, (...) if the categories of neuroscience were complete, then it would be possible to speculate about its relation to earlier stages of thought. However, that is not the situation. The categories of science have yet to emerge. The puzzling character of new scientific objects reveals that we are on the threshold of profound conceptual change. The Humanities are at a crossroad. Do the Humanities scoff at the encroachment of science and risk the fate of those who resisted the Copernican revolution? Do they embrace the changes only to be burned at the stake like those who accepted the Copernican revolution? I suggest that the Humanities mobilize their collective power to create the categories in terms of which science will explicate the very idea of a person. Over the last fifty years, philosophers in the Kantian tradition have offered strategies for developing the new categories in humanistic terms. One approach follows “color” and “consciousness” through their passage from a common sense image of the world to a developing scientific image. It is a journey that illustrates the problems and the puzzles ahead. It indicates the perils of the next recategorization of the world. (shrink)

The article proposes to problematize the language and metaphysics of the Minas Gerais writer João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967) as his way of inhabiting philosophy or philosophizing. To this end, a dialogue is established with the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) and with the Spanish thinker Miguel de Unamuno (1864-1936), whose languages they use to construct their respective speculative thoughts, according to the writer, do not make them systematic philosophers, but rather metaphysicians of the human soul and of transcendence. Inspired by the Studies on authoritarian personality and based on contemporary research on authoritarianism in Brazil, we will analyze the construction of the idol aura surrounding former president Bolsonaro, which allowed the far right to be elected and remain in power until the last elections in 2022. We see his rise as mostly due to the digital violence that largely benefited his campaign and was directed against the block of left-wing candidates. So as to clarify this issue, we will revisit (...) the sociohistorical and psycho-political fundamentals of the antidemocratic and ethnocentric behaviors spurred by that leadership that became idolized. We will also outline an emancipatory, antiracist, culturally relevant and decolonial education, as a way to provide what Adorno regarded as being the antidote to the reemergence of a regressive barbarism. In the case of Brazil, barbarism refers to the remnants of the slave system implemented in the country for three and a half centuries, whose destructive potential was awakened under Bolsonaro’s government, given the latent antidemocratic and authoritarian tendencies in our society. This paper looks at the documentary Five Broken Cameras (Palestine, Israel, France, Netherlands, 2011) to discuss the temporal implications of a quotidian under occupation. More specifically, the investigation casts light over the peaceful resistance against the Israeli wall in the Palestinian village of Bil’in portrayed by the lenses of Emad Burnat, a Palestinian villager who becomes the village´s filmmaker after the acquisition of his first camera. Upon the analysis, I claim that in the context of the Palestinian struggle, cinema is (...) both an integral part of the resistance and an instrument to structure the experience of time in an area fragmented by the occupation. This article seeks to explore the theoretical contributions of Axel Honneth, particularly in his works, The Struggle for Recognition and Reification, aiming at diving deep into the debate on the contemporary ideological expressions and their incidence in the process of subjective constitution in teenage years. This particular interest springs from the need to interweave the concepts of reification, forgetfulness and recognition within a fruitful theoretical field in order to interpret a project work called Hip-Hop: cultures and identities, developed with teenagers (...) in a public school in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. From our point of view, the concepts of reification and forgetfulness are fundamental to identify how the conservative ideological expressions are present in the imaginary of adolescents in the contemporary world. Although rereading the concepts of reification and forgetfulness, as proposed by the author, is regarded as essential for understanding the ideological expressions that are based on and guided by consumption. However, even though we acknowledge Honneth's efforts toward moving forward with the concept of reification, it is crucial to emphasize the mediation concept Lukács explored in his work, History and Class Consciousness, so as to elucidate how the forgetfulness of the primary recognition relations is processed. A ética do discurso justifica o conteúdo de uma moralidade que salienta a simetria entre os sujeitos e a solidariedade entre todos. Para Habermas “a solidariedade é a outra face da justiça” (1999, p. 42), ou seja, são duas faces da mesma moeda. Esta é uma afirmação chave em relação ao conteúdo cognitivo do âmbito moral. A validade das normas pressupõe uma fundamentação normativa estruturada linguisticamente, de forma a vincular a justiça com a solidariedade. A ênfase está em uma razão (...) prática capaz de fundamentar princípios igualitários e universalistas da moral e do direito (2009, p. 63). A legitimação do estado de direito deve preservar sua neutralidade ideológica, alicerçada em uma moral racional, isto é, laica (ou secular). Com isso, as exigências normativas devem ser aceitas por todos em uma sociedade pluralista, formada por cidadãos de diferentes credos e, inclusive, por não crentes (HABERMAS, 2009, p. 69). (shrink)

ABSTRACT The aim of the present article is to rebuild picturebooks’ identity as polyphonic cultural objects based on a brief historical trajectory. Dialogue established between text and reader in contemporary picturebook’s production is broadened by the presence of different semiosis that allow multiple voices to be heard, since they act as meaning enhancers. The Bakhtinian concept of polyphony is herein held at the picturebook reflections scope to set contrast in children’s literature, which has a moralizing nature and is substantiated from (...) a monological perspective. The books by Angela Lago, who is a representative of the Brazilian children’s literature, are herein analyzed to disclose multimodal aspects found in this cultural object (book). In conclusion, picturebooks open a window of possibilities for open minded and creative readings, as well as for different readers, due to their polysemic and polyphonic nature. (shrink)

A proposta desse artigo pretende discorrer sobre as manifestações de biopoder tendo como objeto de análise a personagem Gilda da série “Os últimos dias de Gilda”, exibida pela plataforma digital Globo Play. Gilda é uma mulher periférica e não se encontra nos moldes conservadores acerca da figura feminina e é alvo de vários dispositivos da influência do biopoder. A análise se apoia no entendimento de Michel Foucault sobre o tema ao compreender que o biopoder é uma condição previsível nas esferas (...) da convivência humana para controle dos corpos e subjetividades, mas, por outro lado, abre caminhos para a ocorrência de resistência desses corpos como modo de promover a visibilidade e reconhecimento público e político, como é o caso da personagem principal da série. Na obra Eichmann em Jerusalém – um relato sobre a banalidade do mal, Hannah Arendt descreve em determinada passagem que o réu Otto Adolf Eichmann invoca o imperativo categórico de Immanuel Kant, na busca de justificar sua conduta criminosa no massacre ocorrido na Alemanha nazista. Inertes numa sociedade desfigurada e que apresentava novas leis, tanto o réu quanto os demais criminosos viviam sob um véu de cegueira, que não poderia, porém, ser fundamento para a barbaridade cometida. Pretende-se com esse artigo (...) elucidar o imperativo categórico de Kant empregado na ótica das leis da razão e, analisar o mau uso da autoridade de Kant por Eichmann. (shrink)

O trabalho pretende, a partir da publicação das “Confissões da Carne”, analisar o impasse que diz respeito a sua não publicação em vida por Foucault, em especial em função da entrada do sujeito como terceiro componente do triângulo arqueológico-genealógico, impondo uma reviravolta decisiva em sua pesquisa. A força aletúrgica do sujeito implica uma definitiva dessoberanização do dispositivo de poder. Por um lado, se a forma moderna prevê a sua transferência de um poder sobre si próprio aos outros, o complexo de (...) estratégias governamentais, que «orientam» a direção da consciência, não implica a abdicação da liberdade por parte da pessoa a qual foi dirigida; por outro, uma segunda operação surge da diferenciação específica entre o modelo antigo e o modelo cristão, quer dizer, se o antigo modelo de direção funciona com vistas à autonomização do sujeito, aquele exame de consciência cristão estabelece como eixo a dependência e desenvolve uma racionalidade pastoral. Assim Foucault chega a uma estética da existência que é puro exercício de liberdade e perfeita atitude, que se oferece aos outros como prova do seu próprio valor. É com isso que o volume quarto da história da sexualidade é confrontado. O que muda drasticamente na experiência cristã da carne é a relação do sujeito com a verdade. A confissão, mais do que expiação dos pecados, neste quadro intervém como atestado e como testemunho de si próprio. Em conclusão, para Foucault, conotado pela imperfeição que o domina, o sujeito cristão liga-se a uma interminável direção de consciência cujo preço é uma perda de identidade indefinida. Assim, a partir deste recorte, o problema que passa a enfrentar é como encontrar uma forma de fundamentar a hermenêutica de si, não no sacrifício, mas numa “emergência positiva”, teórica e prática, de si, expondo tanto o momento transicional das “Confissões da Carne” quanto a própria razão pela qual renuncia à sua publicação. Este, na figura de Xerxes, manifesta-se em sua soberba ao tentar derrotar os gregos, comandando numeroso exército na batalha de Salamina. Punido pelos deuses por tal desmedida, no êxodo da obra, surge como um imperador derrotado, trajando esfarrapadas vestes reais. Num diálogo com a arte na contemporaneidade, a (...) discussão empreendida pelo artigo é a de refigurar o mencionado conceito como presença potente na manifestação performática criada por Hélio Oiticica: os parangolés. Com esse intuito, este texto está dividido em três movimentos fundamentais: a) a apresentação dos fundamentos clássicos da hýbris, b) a problematização da presença deste conceito na tragédia Persas, de Ésquilo e, finalmente, c) a transmutação por que passa o conceito de hýbris, da perspectiva negativa clássica, presente na tragédia grega, para a estética positiva contemporânea, ostentada nos parangolés de Oiticica. Se narrativas fílmicas, ou ainda um gênero narrativo, podem mudar o que entendemos por uma cidade, pode a narrativa de uma cidade alterar filmes ou um gênero inteiro? É o que pretendemos investigar nesse ensaio a partir de análises de algumas comédias românticas hollywoodianas filmadas em Nova York após o 11 de setembro. Por décadas, a cidade foi a principal escolha para ambientar filmes leves e românticos da indústria americana. No entanto, após 2001 essa paisagem simbólica foi usada com cautela (...) e a maneira como se filmou e editou a cidade acompanha novas formas de narrar comédia, amor e intimidade no gênero. (shrink)

Os pensadores antigos deixaram uma extensa e variada historiografia acerca do estudo sobre os animais, e a contemporaneidade a recobrou. Na tardia antiguidade, abundantes pesquisas a partir de Plutarco e, em menor número, desde Porfirio, ambos autores de tratados específicos sobre o tema, devem ser ressaltadas. A existência ou não de razão nos animais ou, de outro lado, a discussão e demonstração afirmativa desta, embora fundada em uma natureza e certa dinâmica psicofísica singular à humana, mas nunca quanto a sua (...) essencialidade mesma, cujo princípio é metafísico e uno, constituem alguns dos argumentos abordados. No entanto, em relação a este segundo aspecto, que toca a própria questão da Alma e, como seu corolário, a dinâmica uno-múltiplo nos seres fenomênicos, pouco se disse. Como acreditamos que o estudo sobre a alma seja essencial a nossa discussão, ela é o nosso foco neste estudo. (shrink)

Increasingly, patients and families are engaging the media to influence transplant eligibility decisions for themselves or their family members. This chapter starts by reviewing the history of social media and how social media works as a means of persuasion, particularly in healthcare cases. The chapter then provides an overview of so-called social media crises, and presents an ethical framework to inform and assist policymakers, hospital centers and healthcare providers in responding to public outcry, while managing legal constraints to maintain patient (...) confidentiality and ethical constraints to promote equity and utility in transplant access. In conclusion, the chapter addresses preventive strategies to mitigate both patient harm and public misperceptions. (shrink)

This research investigates the importance of trade-off salience in understanding how variations in consumers’ construal levels can influence moral judgments. Across five experiments, trade-offs are implied and explicitly made salient, and construal levels are manipulated by altering temporal distance and perceptual fluency, and by using a well-established cognitive method. Consistent with prior research, we demonstrate that higher construal levels can reduce anticipated unethical behavior, when trade-offs are not salient, by making higher-level moral values more prominent. When trade-offs are salient, however, (...) we reveal that unethical behavior is increased when construal levels are elevated by making desirability-related thoughts relatively more prominent, compared to feasibility-related thoughts. Tests of mediation provide support for the role of desirability- and feasibility-related thoughts. Together, our results provide insight into the opposing predictions made by construal level theory for ethical decision making by revealing how trade-off salience, often inherent in ethical dilemmas, systematically influences the effects of construal level on ethical decision making. Não obstante, em âmbito metafísico e ontológico, o si a ser conhecido deveria ser o mesmo que buscaria conhecer-se. Isto quer dizer que o ser que se deveria conhecer seria anterior ao seu próprio ser enquanto já constituído por este seu conhecimento, ou ainda, seria tal pelo encontro entre o próprio ser em si, bondoso e virtuoso ele mesmo, com aquele que ainda é para ser, (...) e sobre a promoção da sabedoria de si, pela qual essência e existência se encontrariam e se fundiriam na alma. Poderíamos dizer que estamos aqui diante da reelaboração do conhece-te a ti socrático em direção a uma ontologização da alma humana, sobretudo se vista sob a ótica da busca pela autossuficiência do eu espiritual, tão cara ao período helenístico e romano e notadamente a Sêneca. My goal is to illustrate Descartes’ reliance on two quite different and competing interpretations of objective reality by explaining how each is used in defending his causal axioms. The initial criticism comes from Caterus (and is later taken up by Gassendi) who charges that Descartes makes it appear as if the thought in its objective aspect (the intentional entity) is really distinct from the thought qua modification of the mind (i.e., the thought in its formal aspect). This implies that the (...) object-of-the-thought is actually distinct from the thought-of-the-object in which case, (a) Descartes cannot account for the purported relation between the two, and (b) the intentional entity must exemplify properties which belong neither “immaterially” to mental substance nor concretely to physical substance. Descartes rejects Caterus’ assessment of his position: he has not introduced a fourth kind of real entity into the causal order distinct from the mind, its modifications, and the physical object thought of. However, in responding to Caterus, Descartes implicitly appeals to a Suarezian theory of intentionality in which reference to the ostensibly separate reality of the objective entity is reducible to the formal concept: the thought-of-the-object is not really distinct from the object-of-thought. Clearly, Descartes cannot explicitly use the Suarezian theory because it relies on a system of causal explanation (the doctrine of the species “flitting through the air”) which Descartes rejects on scientific grounds. I shall argue that Descartes is committed to a notion of the “form” of the mind, viz., a modification of mind, which should allow for a non-relational modeling of the thought qua modification of the mind and its intentional object, but that he cannot consistently attribute to mental acts enough structure to support his theory. Neste trabalho, busca-se utilizar alguns elementos do procedimento apresentado por John Rawls em O Liberalismo Político, em especial as três primeiras conferências, como uma possível solução para o paradoxo da tolerância enunciado por Karl Popper em A sociedade aberta e seus inimigos. Tal paradoxo, de maneira geral, questiona se a sociedade deve tolerar o intolerante e quais seriam os limites da tolerância. Para tratar esta questão, parte-se de um conceito de tolerância mais abrangente, a partir de algumas ideias de Rainer (...) Forst, que possui certa proximidade com Rawls. Em seguida trata-se do paradoxo da tolerância na formulação de Popper, que ressalta que uma tolerância ilimitada acabaria com a tolerância em si e aceita o uso da força para suprimir movimentos intolerantes. Por fim, reconstrói-se brevemente alguns elementos do procedimento de Rawls para ilustrar como o paradoxo da tolerância poderia ser tratado em tal abordagem, evitando o uso da força. (shrink)

Afundamentação teórica recai sobre a trajetória de pesquisa do pensador francês Gilbert Durand(1921-2012) sobre o símbolo e o imaginário, bem como a denúncia que ele efetua ao que elechama de esvaziamento simbólico do pensamento ocidental; e sobre os estudos dos críticosliterários (...) John B. Gabel, Charles B. Wheeler, Northrop Frye (1912-1991), Robert Alter e FrankKermode (1919-2010) da relação entre a Bíblia e a literatura. (shrink)

O presente estudo tem como tema o surveillance e a sociedade do controle biopolítico, sendo dada ênfase à conexão com o sistema penal e as tecnologias dispostas nas práticas de segurança. Tem-se como problema de pesquisa como e de que forma operam os “novos” mecanismos de surveillance em prol da segurança no modelo biopolítico do Estado penal? Conclui-se que o modelo de controle atual baseado em riscos e algoritmos emprega o surveillance em uma atuação securitária seletiva, adotando o discurso “científico/tecnológico” (...) como escusa para manutenção discriminatória de uma biopolítica da atuação penal voltada para morte de sujeitos e grupos sociais específicos. Por fim, a metodologia empregada compreende uma abordagem fenomenológico-hermenêutica, um método de procedimento monográfico e técnica de pesquisa por documentação indireta. (shrink)

O presente texto constitui-se como resenha do livro Dispositivi della Normatività, de Antonio Tucci, professor da Università degli Studi di Salerno, Itália. Ao longo da obra, Tucci joga luzes sobre a questão da norma, da normalização e dos dispositivos de segurança, inserindo temas como o da soberania — referente às questões fronteiriças —, da identidade e da cidadania —, ao abordar questões relacionadas aos processos de subjetivação e à necessária reespacialização do espaço político, em um panorama da governamentalidade biopolítica.

In September 2018, a controversial judicial sentence concerning sexual violence caused a public outcry in Portugal. The court decision invoked the alleged environment of mutual seduction, the use of much alcohol consumption, and the lack of serious injuries to justify the suspended penalty. Stemming from the idea that understandings of what journalism is and what it should be are profoundly ideological and that notions of what it means to be and to behave like a woman and as a man have (...) been developed based on shifting realities within generalised patriarchal structures, this article intends to critically analyse the news media coverage of the controversial judicial sentence on this rape case in Portugal exploring the implications objective-based journalism entails for gender equality. As such, it will identify the shortcomings of objectivity and its leeway when covering sexual violence exploring how objective-based journalism provides room to negotiate practices, norms, identities, and meanings concerning sexual violence, particularly rape and rape myths, and questioning whether a margin of maneuvre is enough to deconstruct patriarchal assumptions of feminity, masculinity and sexuality. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo desenvolver reflexão sobre a problemática gerada com a pandemia do Covid-19, sua relação com ensino tecnológico enquanto um direito humano, assim como os limites e contradições. Revelam-se algumas situações que comprometem o acesso à educação de qualidade como um direito de todos, tais como: dificuldades de domínio do professor para com a ferramenta Teams; questões ideológicas, falta de flexibilidade como verdade absoluta e dificuldade de acesso do aluno ao sistema on-line. The works of Sade portray the corrupt and libertine practices at the time of Louis XV's despotic regime, invariably referring to the boudoir as a privileged place for the transformation of mind and body as well as for philosophical production. The actuality of Sade's thought lies in the fact that he reveals - as do modem trends - the narcissic constitution of subjectivity that, in its social-political aspect, leads to political conformism. This article aims at presenting Sade's thought as a (...) radical critique of social relationships, which lead to the rupture of Rousseau's social contract. His relentless doctrine becomes negative philosophy in that it supplies the foundations for the critique of instrumental reason. A pessimist regarding the course of social totality, Sade's theory points to human 'animality' as a possible means of transcending the artificiality of social relationships.As obras de Sade procuram retratar as práticas corruptas e libertinas presentes no regime despótico de Luís XV, apontando invariavelmente a "alcova" como lugar privilegiado de transformação do corpo e da mente e, ao mesmo tempo, de produção filosófica. A atualidade do pensamento de Sade revela-se no fato de colocar como tendencia da modernidade, a constituição narcísica da subjetividade que, em sua variante político-social, aparece sob a forma do conformismo político. Este artigo pretende apresentar o pensamento de Sade como urna crítica aos liames sociais, o que conduz à ruptura da idéia de pacto social formulada por Rousseau. A doutrina sem compaixão de Sade torna-se filosofia negativa na medida em que fornece os fundamentos da crítica à razão instrumental. Sendo pessimista quanto aos rumos do existente, a teoria sadiana aponta a "animalidade" humana como possibilidade de transcendencia da artificialidade dos laços sociais. (shrink)

Neste artigo propomo-nos expor e analisar alguns importantes aspectos do contexto epistemológico de Cassirer em sua primeira grande obra Substanzbegriff und Funktionsbegriff (1910), especificamente acerca da problemática relação da filosofia com a ciência no século XIX. A fim de cumprirmos nossa tarefa, optamos por proceder desta maneira: iniciaremos anunciando o problema enfrentado nesse período; a partir daí passaremos a tratar as heranças filosóficas; em um terceiro momento trabalharemos os legados científicos e, finalmente, concluiremos o artigo com algumas considerações sobre a (...) importância dos dois momentos referidos às origens do projeto filosófico cassireriano. Na primeira, pretende-se caracterizar a pedagogia histórico-crítica; segunda, algumas críticas à pedagogia das competências; terceira, revelar a relação entre a pedagogia das competências e a educação do estado de São Paulo; na conclusão, a necessidade urgente de resgatar a concepção de educação pautada na totalidade, superação da visão individualista, (...) defesa dos interesses planetários e universais, as questões éticas, ambientais, justiça social e valorização da vida. À luz de dois centenários: do falecimento de Franz Kafka em 1924 e dos 100 anos de nascimento de Ibrahim Frantz Fanon em 2025, este texto tem por objetivo suscitar reflexões por meio destes autores aparentemente distantes do século XX, tendo como guia a questão: Quais são os encontros e desencontros acerca de suas colocações sobre linguagem, violência e colonização? Por meio deste questionamento será possível situar alguns entrecruzamentos encontrados na novela Na Colônia Penal (1919) de Kafka e nos textos (...) de Fanon acerca das temáticas da colonização e linguagem. Principalmente em Pele negra, máscaras brancas (1952), onde há uma importância fundamental do fenômeno da linguagem seguindo um aspecto fenomenológico, que situa a relação entre corpo e linguagem como “partes totais”. Nesse diálogo a novela e outros textos kafkianos nos apresentam caminhos para essa aproximação na situação colonial entre violência e linguagem e sua capacidade de "ferir" o corpo. (shrink)

O presente artigo tem como objetivo desenvolver uma reflexão crítica a respeito da Lei 8069 de 13 de julho de 1990, o Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA), o qual já completa 35 anos de sua publicação, assim como seu impacto na formulação de políticas afirmativas como ferramentas de luta em defesa dos direitos sociais. Procura-se compreender como se dá a concepção de educação, a valorização dos profissionais da educação e a questão dos investimentos, ponto nevrálgico, pela própria falta (...) de priorização de investimentos em educação na história do Brasil. Defende-se, a partir da categoria de totalidade lukacsiana, a educação como ferramenta de humanização, de construção da consciência crítica em relação a direitos sociais, tais como trabalho, saúde, educação, segurança e outros, necessários à vida digna em sociedade.
